I read this book for a book club of mine and I'm worried, because I have a feeling everyone but me is really going to like this book. But nonetheless I'm going to stick with my star rating (about 2.5).

This book was picked by my book club as our October read. Picoult has a loyal fan following and has been quite successful writing contemporary fiction which focuses on current social or cultural issues, usually following a set formula. Since I have been lukewarm about several of her earlier books, I was totally prepared to pan this one (while still enjoying dinner and drinks with my reading buddies). This is a heavier Jodi Picoult piece, but it's a page turner. I would say that there are some factual issues with hospital protocol, and a twist at the end that's stretching believability. That said, she thoughtfully tackles the issue of race in our country and the nuances of institutionalized racism/discrimination and individual prejudices.
