I was so surprised by this book. I really loved how Du Maurier maintained the suspense all the way through - I thoroughly enjoy books which leave you questioning at the end. Was Rachel really evil? Philip Ashley is a young adult orphaned at an early age and raised by his wealthy cousin Ambrose. I loved Rebecca and I wanted to read more of this author and I heard this book being helmed the first Gone Girl. While I liked it it ran very slowly for my taste. So I struggled for the want to pick it up. But I still want to read more from this author because the writing was so well done.

A serviceable gothic thriller. It's not up the standards of Rebecca, one of my favorite books, but it certainly was enjoyable. The ending is a bit ambiguous, which I enjoyed. ...more
