What Members Thought
This book and I are not starting off on the right foot. First of all, the names are stupid and sound made up (I mean, "Celaena Sardothien"? seriously??). Never the sign of a good fantasy. Second, each character is introduced by his/her full name. ugh. Never the sign of a skilled writer. Not to mention, why do I care what their full names are? Throw it in later, if you must - have someone call out "hey Mr Fullname!" and you've got it. But instead, we've got needless repetitions of FullName FullNa

The basic premise of this first book in the Throne of Glass series is that Celaena, a young but well-trained assassin, has been taken from her slave prison and chosen to be a competitor in the King's competition. Winner gets their freedom.... eventually. After they spend 4 years working as the King's personal assassin. Some of the competitors are going to be pretty hard for Celaena to beat, but luckily there's also a mysterious beast roaming the castle, killing them off.

4.5 stars I loved this book and can't wait to read the rest of the series. It had a similar feel to The Thief by Megan Turner (which I also enjoyed). The main character is strong and the setting is interesting. The storyline moves fast and it was an overall enjoyable read.
