This book was such a fun read. Told from the perspective of Bee, about her misunderstood genius mother Bernadette, it's hilarious, witty and has a feeling of dysfunction a la Arrested Development. I loved it because it was told from a perspective of a girl who loves her mother fiercely despite her quirks and the little disasters that are partly her fault and partly the fault of the crazies around her. At first, I wasn't a fan of the narrator's voice, but then I realized that she captured the gossipy, chick lit nature of this book. I also liked being awakened by her singing Silent Night.
I agree with the reviewer who said that we were misled by the blurb, because Bernadette disappeared 2/3rds into the book and there was no mystery as to why. ...more

This book is hilarious. I’ve rarely read a book with such a creative concept so (seemingly) effortlessly executed with a lively voice, hysterical action, and a beating heart at the center.
