I don’t usually read sci-fi. This was a great escape with tight storytelling.

Let me just say reading this was a lot of fun! I felt like it was Hunger Games meets The Maze Runner meets Divergent. However, to me overall this was better than some of those, meaning I thought the third book in this series was better than the third book in the rest. I also just saw on Goodreads today that he is going to continue the series with Iron Gold and am very excited about that. Hopefully it is as good as this series was.

I had some trouble getting started with this book. I have read a ton of YA dystopias this year and Red Rising didn't seem very interesting compared with some of the others. Maybe because the story doesn't really take off until the second half of the book, or maybe because it was a male protagonist and I'm used to female protagonists. I don't know.

This one is a page-turner with the tournament of Hunger Games and the houses of Harry Potter. It is often a vile look at humanity, but Brown paints a picture with compelling characters and an exciting storyline.
