I really like this series and the setting. The archeological background to the plot was very interesting as well. I enjoyed the tv series very much but while they are similar to the books I enjoy the books just a bit more.

Hattie James is an intense, sometimes troubled young graduate student working on an archaeological dig on a croft in the Shetland Island. She hopes to prove a theory that a large merchant house was once on the land. I liked this book better than the first two. There were pages that I skimmed but the various stories were gripping.

I always enjoy to read books in places I've never been before (literary wise and in real life). The Shetland Islands were such a black spot on my map.

I needed some time to warm up to Jimmy Perez and Sandy, I thought Sandy was quite clumsy and liked to drink quite a bit.

The more I learned about the people on the Island the more I liked the story. It was a bit slow at times, though. Of course, I read about people I disliked on sight :) (view spoiler)
