I think this would have been a five star listen if I hadn't read the few reviews that claimed this was the most creepy of Agatha Christie's books. I went in expecting creepy and it turned out not to be the kind of creepy I was expecting. I know better than to let other reviews formulate my expectations. That is the definition of disappointment. This is the third full-length book in Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence series. The title comes from MacBeth - "By the pricking of my thumbs, Something wicked this way comes." There are only four books in the series and several short stories. This Christie series grew on me as I read through them. Love that she ages this couple as the stories progress.

This is a good story but it's never been one of my favorites. I think it's the suspicion surrounding the nursing home, and the constant talk about how once you're "old" you lose your memory, your mind, your common sense... I first read this when I was a girl, and I was close to my grandparents and volunteered in our two local nursing homes, so the idea of seniors being abused upset me a lot. Reread 2021: Between the good beginning and the highly memorable conclusion, the plot swims aimlessly amongst the red herrings a bit too much; but Tommy & Tuppence continue to delight and the witch's house atmosphere is so creepy.
