Kindaichi reminds me so much of L from Death Note. Imagined him as L throughout the novel. Loved every bit of this.

This was my first time reading a Golden Age Mystery author from Japan. The style took a little getting used to, as did some cultural references, but the detective was personable and interesting and the solution clever. If there are more mysteries with this detective that have been translated into English, I would be very interested in reading them.

My first impression on starting to read this book, was that I was really going to like it, as the narrator was of a very friendly type. But then I had to get over the feeling that the author was giving a cheap commercial for golden age author's books, as he mentioned so many. Fortunately, I think there was only one book that he gave details of a spoiler for. An interesting locked room mystery. These are not my favorite type of mystery and I have doubts that it would work but one aspect made it more likely. I intend to continue the series.

A very clever Locked-Room/Whodunnit
Yokomizo is obviously a fan of the mystery genre.
