The sixth book in this series, which I have found very much varying in interest to me. This is a locked-room mystery where the victim has been told to expect a visitor who is known to him from a past encounter, and is after revenge. We are told of the victim's past, and therefore are not surprised that he is found murdered in his rooms. However the way he has been killed is very much a puzzle to the police and to Dr.Fell. Dark, fascinating and fiendishly clever! This book was amazing. The plot utterly confounded me and when Fell makes his big reveal I was stunned. Carr’s plotting was so clever though that he neatly pointed out all the clues and how this was the only way they actually made sense even though it was the last thing you would guess.
