Lunchtime Listen December 2024

Read by the inimitable Hugh Fraser !

I have to say this was a really enjoyable lunchtime listen, that only lasted a few days as we just wanted to keep listening. The story is excellent, the narration is just superb.

In fact I am wondering whether to ramp it up to 5 stars as it was such a fun listen.

A good story.

Celia Ravenscroft and Desmond Burton-Cox want to marry. Desmond’s mother by adoption, Mrs Burton-Cox am odious woman opposes the marriage. Not my favorite Hercule Poirot mystery by any means. The plot was a bit thin, and easy to figure out fairly early on in the story. I also missed the character quirks that so endear me to Poirot, as they are absent in this volume. I was also annoyed with Ariadne Oliver in this book, as she was rather scatterbrained towards the beginning, and did not improve much as the story developed. I find it tough to give less than three stars to the Grande Dame of mystery, though, as Christie's writing style ...more
