Lady Clementina ffinch-ffarowmore

In this, the thirty-third Poirot mystery, Poirot receives a request for help from mystery-writer Ariadne Oliver. Mrs Oliver has been down at Nasse House, Nassecombe, Devon, where a village fête is to be held and one attraction is a ‘murder hunt’ on the lines of a treasure hunt which she is in charge of organising. (Poirot is to be present in the guise of giving out the prizes.) While the plans are going along well, Mrs Oliver is certain that she senses something wrong, perhaps that someone has b

This was a very well-done mystery. When Poirot gets a sudden call from Ariadne Oliver asking him to come down to a country house where she 'feels' something is wrong. She is assisting with a murder hunt game and invites Poirot over on the pretext of helping her out, but actually to find out what is wrong.

All goes well until the actual day of the event when the supposed murder victim, a girl playing the part of the wife of the Yugoslavian ambassador. However, since she was actually just a local

Review of the audiobook narrated by Sir David Suchet

I tend to rate books according to how much I enjoyed them, and so I’m giving this one just three stars. Two reasons. First, I never had the least notion who the murderer might be. I mean, I rarely solve Christie’s mysteries myself, but I frequently think that I have done so. Here, there were not enough clues to lead me to pick out anybody, even a wrong one. Second, while I have great respect for Poirot’s little grey cells, his solution just see

I found this a totally engrossing read and it was nice to Mrs Ariadne Oliver involved in this investigation by the inimitable Hercule Poirot and his 'little grey cells'. Ariadne telephones Poirot because she feels there is something odd going on at Nasse House where she is arranging a murder mystery for the house guests to investigate. She wants Poirot to come and stay to see if he can work out what is going on.

Poirot's curiosity is aroused and he immediately packs and catches a train for Devon.

A very satisfying murder mystery, I really enjoyed this book. I'm liking Poirot more and more, I used to find him quite irritating but now I think he's brilliant!!

This was my choice for " a story featuring a garden" for Read Christie 2021.

Having viewed the David Suchet version prior to reading the story, I can definitely say the Suchet version is the more engaging of the two.
The plot of a uber-wealthy squire with his decorative bride hosting a fete which is interrupted by a senseless murder of a teenage girl is almost passé, since it is mired in a wandering morass of false leads and aspirations of suspicion. The story rambles and it finally explodes with a suppositional conclusion by Poirot. It basically comes out of thin air an

Não reconheci Poirot, creio que talvez ele estando já mais velho tenha outra ritmo. Mas gostei ainda assim.

Mrs Oliver asks Poirot to go to Devon to judge a murder hunt mystery game, however this turns out to be a real murder he has to solve. As expected from Christie, there are plenty of red herrings to mislead . I'm surprised Mrs Oliver's apples only made a short showing, but the mystery was very engaging. ...more

Just finished rereading this one. Halfway through the book and I still couldn't figure out who the villain is. I had an idea who it was near the end but the denouement still came as a pleasant surprise. A very solid Hercule Poirot mystery. ...more
