What Members Thought

Another one of my favourites! I love the David Suchet film as well, and the murderer is brilliantly played by the actor as well.
Richard Abernethie dies, and his sister, Cora Lansquenet makes a wild statement about his being murdered at the funeral. Nobody takes her seriously until Cora herself is violently murdered in her home. Was Richard's death really a murder? Why was Cora murdered? Did she know something and had to be silenced or was her murder really about something else? It's a very inte ...more

Cora Lansquenet has always had a way of blurting out whatever came to mind--inconvenient truths, as Mr. Entwhistle, the family lawyer tends to think of them. I absolutely love this book! I remembered this story, but it was a delight to read it again because I had forgotten the important details. I love the Poirot stories where he keeps to the background and lets the characters develop. It is hard to find out the murderer in this one. Though there are clues, it's the last person one would think of! I rather liked that be

A funeral is followed by the usual family gathering at which the dead man's sister comments that he was murdered. The remark causes consternation. The family solicitor is worried and the comment stirs his own doubts about the death. He decides to call in Hercule Poirot to investigate.
Then Cora, the lady who made the unfortunate remark, is found hacked to death and the police get involved as well as Poirot. What is gradually revealed as Poirot asks the family some awkward questions is a web of re ...more

Had a sudden hankering for Agatha Christie so I picked this one to reread and then watched the TV episode immediately after to compare. And was bowled over by how it was vividly and creepily brought to life. Wonderfully devious both.
