3/2025 - increased to five stars on this reread, right book, right time, I guess! Read this time for the Retro Reads group Book Pool. This is a later Poirot, one character says they were sure he was long dead! I find the later mysteries very enjoyable, our hero isn’t necessarily humble (Poirot could never be that), but he gets tired, his patent leather shoes make his feet ache, younger characters don’t necessarily recognize his name, etc. - he’s decidedly more human! But still sharp as ever.

Very good, though if you've read a lot of Christie, you'll notice a few of her favorite 'tricks'.

I only gave it 3 stars as it seemed a trifle padded. You don't get the final and most important clue until very near the end, and then from there it's just a wrap-up.
