This was a re-read! I remembered the basic premise, and as soon as the murderer appeared, that they were the murderer, but I couldn't remember why, so I still got a lot of enjoyment out of watching the story unfold. I remember appreciating this for the fact that the victim was not a member of the middle-class, but a charwoman--there is a lot of classism in detective fiction of the era, and although this ended up as a middle-class crime, I liked Poirot's sympathy for the victim.

A fairly average Hercule Poirot whodunnit. No Captain Hastings as sidekick, just the annoying and unfunny Ariadne Oliver. A pity
The GR blurb:
'Mrs. McGinty is dead and everyone suspects James Bentley, her slightly shifty lodger, but Superintendent Spence is suspicious enough to ask for Hercule Poirot's assistance. Soon, the seemingly simple situation turns into a complex web of lies and hidden identities.' ...more

I really have no idea how I missed rating it for the first time I read it. Anyways , Better late than never. So to start with Its a Christie and that too a Poirot . I need'nt say no more. It had the actual dose of my Christie dope I was craving for so long. Also ,its my second-last from Poirot series, only one more left towards Poirot challenge. It being a typical whodunit village mystery added cherry on the cake. However I did feel that the plot suited Miss Marple a lot better than Poirot. At som

Perhaps I've not appreciated much the book because it's the first book that I've read in English. This made more difficult comprehension and slower my reading speed. In my mind this is not one of the best of Poirot cases. Although it isn't awful, it's not memorable.

A typical great Agatha Christie mystery. Had me guessing right until the end. Highly recommended for all Agatha Christie fans.
