‘I should, perhaps, madame, tell you a little more about myself. I am Hercule Poirot.’
The revelation left Mrs Summerhayes unmoved.
‘What a lovely name,’ she said kindly. ‘Greek, isn’t it?’
Now this is a Poirot novel that strays from the script a bit. It's fascinating but there seem to be three parts to this novel and the crime/mystery part is the weakest one. Yet, I really liked the book because first and foremost, Christie made me laugh out loud quite a few times.

A very amusing Christie. Poirot is staying in a B&B below his standards, no one in the small village knows who he is and even the suspect does not take him seriously. The Christie-like mystery author is fighting with a playwright about the portrayal of her series character and expressing her own dislike of that same character with all his little foibles. Christie certainly had fun at her own expense. Wonderful.
Oh, and there are a couple of murders.
Oh, and there are a couple of murders.

A fairly average Hercule Poirot whodunnit. No Captain Hastings as sidekick, just the annoying and unfunny Ariadne Oliver. A pity
The GR blurb:
'Mrs. McGinty is dead and everyone suspects James Bentley, her slightly shifty lodger, but Superintendent Spence is suspicious enough to ask for Hercule Poirot's assistance. Soon, the seemingly simple situation turns into a complex web of lies and hidden identities.' ...more

I am trying to review all my books as a type of diary on how I felt during this time.... I loved this book of an old retired Hercule poirot who is back to do a favor for an old friend who is not convinced that a killer is a killer because he is not arrogant enough :))) I loved the characters as always and this tiny village with its past ghosts
