This was "so" heading for 5 stars and then somehow in the last few pages it wasn’t.

A reread! Excellent tight plot and mystery, compelling characters but unfortunately a lot rested on the romance and the romance fell flat.
I think my memory of the story was skewed by the fact that I remembered what happened to one of the victims and felt sorrier for them than I did for the wronged family members.
