A most exotic - and extremely wealthy - man hosts an intriguing dinner party: the guests are four famous sleuths and four people who may have killed in the past but who have not, as yet, been found out. He drops numerous hints, and at the end of the evening is found dead. Which murderer killed again? Which sleuth will figure it all out first? One of Christie’s most peculiar stories, it’s fascinating even though I don’t understand Bridge at all and the cardgame plays a part in the solution. Super

Mr. Shaitana hosts an odd bridge/dinner party and invites eight dinner guests - four detectives (including Hercule Poirot) and four people he claims have committed perfect murders. However, no one who knows what group each guest belongs to. During the party, the party host Mr. Shaitana is murdered - and he is not the last of the ensuing murders. First time I've ever read a mystery where the game of bridge is an integral part.

I like the slightly different way the author reveals everyone's motives, and the fact that there aren't any really nasty people you hope end up being guilty, it's more a choice of ordinary, imperfect folks. I always enjoy seeing Christie spoof herself as Ariadne Oliver, who in this case suspects everyone. Finally, it's fun seeing Poirot work with Superintendent Battle and Colonel Race to unmask the

Oooh, this one will go down among my very favorite Agatha Christie novels! I wish I played bridge; I think I'd appreciate it even more, though you certainly don't need to understand the game to enjoy the book.

A suitably multi-leveled mystery with ample twisty and turny fun. Hastings does not appear and I thought I might miss him, but Hercule did well on his own. I think all things considered that this is my favorite Christie to date-- despite the usual lack of cards on the table from her (pardon the title pun). Luckily enough I'm not one of those that has to try and figure it out as I read -- I'm happy to come along for the ride as long as you prove entertaining.
