An interesting Poirot, first-person narrated in this case, by a nurse, catapulted into an architectural dig in Iraq, in order to look after the nervy wife of the dig leader. The question is, which of the members of the dig is the murderer, since it is unlikely that an outsider could have entered the dig headquarters at the relevant time? This was one of the alternative titles for February.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. Christie evokes her setting so well that you almost feel like you’re there with the characters. The plot is cleverly conceived and Poirot’s final reveal is masterfully executed.

Highly recommended.

I was enjoying this book: fun setting in an archaeological dig, intelligent narrator, sympathetic victim, BUT I simply could not believe the ending.
