Thirteen guests at dinner is said to be unlucky and this dinner certainly turns out to be unlucky for the Reverend Stephen Babington as he chokes on a cocktail and dies in front of the other guests. Hercule Poirot predicts there will be no poison found in the dregs in the glass. At first the death is attributed to natural causes but when another death happens in similar circumstances in a different location suspicions are aroused.

Hmm. I don’t hate this but I also wanted more Poirot 🤷🏾‍♀️
I rather prefer a Poirot book to have him in most part of the book rather than towards the end. Not a bad book but not my fav.

I had thought that I had read this before, but if I had, there was an awful lot I had forgotten. Even though Poirot didn't play a large part in the book, it was still compulsive reading. Although retired, we see a side of Poirot where he realises he is just not enjoying retirement as he thought he would.
Christie did all she could to divert us and suspect one person as being the murderer, and even though you knew you were being led that way, there were still times where you doubted yourself. She

Although a story with huge potential, this was not upto the standard of the queen of crime. The story seemed stretched too much and the detective’s involvement came too late in the story while the other sleuths were gathering clues mainly for the reader rather than to add to the flow of the story.

A Poirot novel with very little Poirot. After a wonderful scene with whining children complaining there is nothing to do, Poirot decides retirement bores him and returns to England to solve the crime. I couldn't have done it without him. ...more
