I really enjoyed this one though I did find Hastings actions towards the end a bit unlikely. Quick fun and easy read all the same.

First of all, Papa Poirot was marvelous in this one! *_*

The second novel in Hercule Poirot series, the plot is a little complicated, if you ask me, but briefly, Poirot receives a letter from a Frenchman who says that his life is in danger. Poirot and Hastings start off for his house, but are a little late and find him dead when they reach. Now Poirot has to find the killer, and tolerate a nasty french detective who disagrees on everything Poirot says that

An interesting early Poirot, where the similarity between the Poirot/Hastings and Holmes/Watson characters and their relationshipsis very clear, and the use of Conan Doyle's narration and plot construction is also evident.

A wonderfully constructed cast of interrelated and mysterious English, French, and American characters, based mainly in northern France.

The rather odd GR blurb:

This is a wonderful book by Agatha Christie with an engaging plot and suspense ending. I highly recommend to all those who are the fans of the Queen of Crime!
