4.5★ Can't make it 5★as the clues weren't there for the reader to solve themselves (although Tey did lead one up the garden path! I do love a good garden path wander!)

A good solid golden age detective story. Albeit a 17 year old girl had to clear a wrongly accused suspect. Grant investigates the suspicious death of Christine Clay a movie star that drowned. The discovery of a button tangled in her hair, and signs of struggle on her hands leads Grant to believe she was murdered. Her houseguest Tisdall a man without means and with an odd story leads to him being a suspect.
