Lunchtime Listen 2024
And now it's only 3 years since I last read this. This was a really good version read by Richard E Grant, that was a lunchtime listen that lasted only two days despite being over 6 hrs long.
Given the number of times I have read the book and seen the Joan Hickson TV version, I obviously knew the story very well, but with a book as good as this it doesn't seem to matter, and so it wasn't in any way boring, in fact with some of Richard E Grant's voices it was quite amusing.

Surprisingly Miss Marple does not make an entrance until page 142! Still I enjoyed the brother and sister combo and the plot was excellent. Once I would like to solve one of these mysteries. Alas I failed again although when Miss Marple explains her reasoning its blindingly obvious! Ah poison pen letters.
The love story between Megan and Jerry the recuperating pilot is a little awkward. Several people have received poison pen letters and then suddenly Megan’s mother is murdered. As we all know wo ...more

Richard E. Grant's narration of this book was wonderful. He brings a warmth to the characters and that's perfect for this story as it is one of Agatha Christie's cosier novels with added romance.
Miss Marple only appears towards the end of the story which is narrated in the first person of the main character Jerry Burton. Richard E.Grant's narration just puts Joan Hickson into your mind whenever Miss Marple appears. ...more

This one was the Agatha Book Club read for February. I really liked this book! I had to keep reading until I got to the end! It was a re-read for me, but it has been years and I didn't have a clue as to who did it. As usual I love Agatha's gift at describing Village life. I found myself daydreaming about moving to a village thoroughout! Miss Marple was hardly in the book though, and really the book wouldn't have been lacking if she wasnt even in it. I enjoyed Jerry Burton's account of the story.

Miss Marple Win It All!
This story is a little bit different when confronted with other Marple mysteries. Miss Marple and her incomparable wisdom appear late in the plot. With that said, one will experience another well designed puzzle with a lot of good ingredients: anonymous letters, murder, a lot of gossip, even romance. A well written tale presented in the first person by its main character.
