Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane on honeymoon discover a body in the cellar of their new rural retreat. High-class writing, with more character revealing and relationship development than detection. Pretty good picture of rural town/village life and changes in the decade before the war. Helps to get the literary references, in English and French!

An audio re-read left me a little less satisfied than a year ago - a bit of a feeling of 'oh, just get on with the plot.' My fault, a re-read too soon ...more
