An interesting mystery...Sayers has not made my favorites list in one swoop, but I will probably continue reading the series. There was quite a bit of talking out loud and reasoning aloud, and quite a bit of gory detail, which did get old after awhile, but the mystery was well plotted and reasoned.

The first Lord Peter Wimsey with my edition having a background of the history of Lord Peter. The story of the murdered naked man in the bath tub. An intriguing mystery of how he got there and who was he. Alas, it was poor Mr Thipps bathroom in his Batterseas house.

Dorothy L. Sayers is cosidered as one of the" Big Four" from the golden age of detective fiction, others being Agatha Christie,Ngaio Marsh and Margery Allingham.
Since I am a great fan of Agatha Christie and is almost running out of her works recently ,I was suggested the other three authors for similar experience.
so, this is my very first dorothy L. sayers.
I enjoyed the narrative ,language and the character build up but the story lacked the Christie factor.

This is my first Lord Peter Wimsey book. I've often heard that the first in a series tends NOT to be the author's best and perhaps that is as it is here. I actually quite enjoy the characters, and there is some great banter at times. However, I listened on audiobook, and found myself drifting off, unable to keep my mind on the story. I got a hard copy from the library to re-read passages I missed. Lord Peter states at one point, "I'm afraid I'm being beastly long-winded." While part of his quirk

This is the first in a famous detective series. I know I will take much heat for this, but I found the book dated. It is written without much character development and is short. Perhaps publishing the the 1920's was much more streamlined.
I am sure that this series gets better over the volumes and I will try the next entry when I get a chance. ...more
