I'm torn about reading this book. In previous classes, I've studied various translations of Beowulf, and the story is so rich and interesting. It's the original High Fantasy work with epic battles and mythical creatures. As the result, I'd love to read another translation, and this is one that's been recommended. However, I've been refraining from reading Tolkien's. Reading The Hobbit, and parts of his extended Beowulf essay "The Monsters and the Critics" turns me away. I find Tolkien to be annoying to read, and despite his linguistics background, I fear his translation would bore me as much as his other works do. Hence why I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.
