The Poldark series is terrific historical romantic drama and is quickly getting under my skin. The second installment with Demelza Carne, the free-spirited daughter of a poor miner, who has not had an easy life thus far, is now married to Ross. This matchup certainly shifts the intrigue level. And although Ross is still unsettled by the loss of Elizabeth, now married to his cousin, Demelza eases that heartache a bit. I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT HAPPENED.
I felt this way a few times during this read, particularly at the end. There were a few deaths in this book and two of them in particular I found very disturbing. One was quite satisfying, I must say even as a self-confessed pacifist.
I love this series, absolutely love it. It's funny, tragic, romantic, real. I got a sinking feeling towards the end as the sore throat sickness was spreading through the district.

It did end in an odd place in the storyline of the Poldark saga. If I had not seen the series this may have bothered me somewhat, but I know what happens next, so I'm not anticipating the next book as much.
I still love the story, and am still intrigued by what the current series has changed from the novels. Some characters in the novel have more depth, while others in the novel are a little less lovable than in the television series. ...more
