Wini Allen and her 3 friends take a vacation together every year. This year Pia has decided they should go river rafting in Maine. Their guide is a 20 year old college student who is leading his first rafting trip. The book is very slow to get going. There is a freak event that happens, given away in the book jacket, but this event doesn't happen until over halfway through the book.
