This book took me a long time to read, simply because other books came up and this one was easy to set down and come back to. It was interesting and a great start to a series that I will continue. It had everything I love about a book: a curmudgeon detective, ritualistic murders, kidnappings, a little gore, a little heart, some strong female characters, and a dreary yet dreamy setting. I say give it a shot so you can decide for yourself.
