What Members Thought
I was torn between three and four stars here, but finally settled on three for a couple of reasons. I'm not a huge fan of the dystopian genre in general, but I did find that this book presented some interesting twists on the genre, particularly the focus on differences in human nature and the lack of an overarching 'Big Brother' figure. To be fair, I think my impressions of the movie trailer (I haven't seen the movie) tainted my expectations a bit. Still, for at least the first half of the book,

There are a lot of things I like about Divergent - Tris is an imperfect heroine. She doesn't even WANT to be different. There's no love triangle, just the awkwardness of a young relationship. And the bad guys do what they do because they think it's for the best.
Divergent for me is about embracing our differences as much as out similarities. It's about finding your own place in the world, even when people try to tell you what it should be.
