Mandel does an excellent job of weaving together the lives of so many unique people and circumstances. Her post apocalyptic world is both terrifying and full of hope. She makes you appreciate how lucky you are, while at the same time realizing how quickly your life can crumble.

Station Eleven follows a number of individuals through their journey as they experience the end of civilization as we know it and begin to find their way in a world where they are surrounded by the relics of a previous existence that feels far beyond their reach. Notably, the cast of characters includes the Traveling Symphony, a group of musicians and actors whose dedication to traveling between the small existing communities is motivated by the phrase "Because survival is insufficient."
