Чтение "Кровавого меридиана" - многоуровневое и невеселое приключение, которое стоит каждой потраченой минуты. Если бы не книжный клуб, я бы влепила единицу и забросила туда же, где валяется мой "Моби Дик", которым автор так вдохновлялся при написании "Меридиана". Но потом мне ткнули пальцем, куда надо смотреть, чтобы увидеть гениальность, я прочла "Меридиан" второй раз, и в книге разверзлись новые глубины вдобавок к кинематографичным образам полу-Босх, полу-карты таро.

A. What was this?! I only made it a third of the way through so I won’t rate this book, but I was so bored I had to put it down! It’s a western, but with lots of horror and gore thrown in. I’m okay with horror and gore, but this seemed to have no point other than shocking the reading, which it did not. A boy joins a group looking to go kill Mexicans and keeps coming across the aftermath of Native massacres. Not for me.

I did not enjoy this book. Cormac McCarthy has a distinctive style of no quotation marks and lots of description. I would find my attention wandering while I read and I would have to go back to try and figure out what exactly happened. I didn't relate to any of the characters and didn't much care what happened to them. ...more
