Dug this.

I'm really here for books that find a way to crystallize so many of the things that I love about books. Probably a 3.5, but it gets the friendly roll into the basket for making me smile a bunch. I totally get the narrative voice's similarities to the protagonist of "Ready Player One," which was fiercely enjoyable as well. ...more

I thought the story was good but the amount of technology product placement in this book lost a star with me. I almost feel like this book was sponsored by Goggle. I listened to the audiobook and the guy who did it was great! Very imaginative and great presence! Loved him!

Shelves: fantasy, audiobook, speculative-fiction

Hints of the soul of Harry Potter and some Mission:Impossible, all in a quest story that is set in current day. If you like Ready Player One, you will enjoy this book, but instead of SciFi, you get shades of fantasy through the mystery surrounding a secret society. The author is clearly a fan of Google. Underdog hero main character, coding techie/strong leader female character, and a Dumbledore-like peculiar guide/mentor. I was hooked from the first chapter.
