I respect the direction Robin Sloane was trying to take, but the plot became quite silly and downright stupid at times. It was a quick transatlantic airplane read that likely would have been discarded if it weren't the only novel in my carry on.

Hints of the soul of Harry Potter and some Mission:Impossible, all in a quest story that is set in current day. If you like Ready Player One, you will enjoy this book, but instead of SciFi, you get shades of fantasy through the mystery surrounding a secret society. The author is clearly a fan of Google. Underdog hero main character, coding techie/strong leader female character, and a Dumbledore-like peculiar guide/mentor. I was hooked from the first chapter.
