I realize this is not news to anyone in the book world but TANA FRENCH CAN WRITE. Whoa. This was a very good mystery with characters that felt so real. I enjoyed the audiobook (narrated by Steven Crossley) immensely, and I'd recommend reading it in that format.

There are actually two central mysteries to this book: The first is the 1980s disappearance of Adam Ryan's two childhood best friends in the wood surrounding their Irish town. At the time, Adam was found clutching a tree and wearing blood-

Three young children go into the woods and two of them never come out. The third, Adam, is found with blood in his shoes, scratches on his back, and no memory of what happened. Only that he is terrified. The other two children are never found.

Many years later, Adam has become "Detective Ryan" and no one knows about his past. And a 12-year old girl is murdered in the same woods. Are the two cases linked together? Detective Ryan and his partner Cassie Maddox determine to solve one, if not, two mys

Decent read.... not what I expected..... it's more than what I expected, and yet by the end I felt like it somehow ended up under-performing.

This is a hard book to place and this seems to be a muddled sort of review, but that purely reflects my feelings for the book. I can point to no one thing that was done poorly with this book and really there are plenty of merits (style, flow, character building, cleverness), but somehow that does not change the fact that there is feeling of unkept promises,

This was beautifully and eerily written, but Detective Ryan was so unlikeable and more importantly, so self-obsessed that he ended up being shockingly bad at his job. I just couldn't connect to his ... detecting journey at all. I mean, if he could have seen past himself, the warning signs would have been clear.

The book was really well-written, though! It pulls you in in weird ways. And characters like Cassie and Big Bad were fascinating! So, I'm not sure how to feel. I want to read more by Frenc

I really thought I'd love this book. It's been recommended to me by a bunch of people whose suggestions usually end up being my favorites. Alas, 'twas not to be. I barely dragged myself through the first 200 pages, then rushed towards the end. Half because I just wanted to know what happened already and half because I just wanted to be done with it.

The main character was not very likable and if it wasn't in first person, that would be forgivable, but because the entire thing was in Rob's perspec
