I guess this interestingly bizarre story can be interpreted in a vast array of meanings.
I interpreted it as that Gregor’s transformation was a representation of chronic debilitating illness and how it can transform families and create a sense of worthlessness and dependence for the sick person and resentment and disgust from the caregiver if the support is viewed as an obligation rather than act of love.
