Terrific but also will I remember anything about this story in three weeks from now?
This is a book about humanity and hardships. It is about what you are willing to do in order to achieve the American Dream you are seeking. The characters in this book are tragic but undeniably human. You come to understand each one as a human being and you see that they are not all that different from each other. I loved this book - it made for a great audiobook. The characters are complex and subtle and I really appreciate the overall plot.

3.5 stars. Loved the audiobook narration of this one but for some reason felt a disconnect while listening to the story that could be due to multiple reasons: current events, distracted mind in last month of pregnancy, etc.
A beautifully written story about love and sacrifice
This book had my heart aching and cheering through each chapter for Neni and Jende as they navigate New York City as immigrants during the Great Recession.

A. I found this book interesting, but, ultimately, disappointing. After being a strong character for the book, Neni caves to her husbands wishes in the end and gives up on her dreams. I couldn’t process this in my head.
