Timeless and memorable. It is incredible how Hinton, a mere teenager herself when she wrote this, perfectly captures the voice of Ponyboy and creates such distinct personalities for each of the greasers. The story is fairly simple on the surface, but subtly delves into weighty topics such as identity within an established society and the dangers of stereotypes through Ponyboy's various experiences. It took me far too long to discover the wonders of this book!

I definitely read this in high school but am not sure if I had reread it at any other point. I picked this up as part of my goal to finally read the few remaining books that I purchased in 2014. Parts of it were still very familiar and some aspects I had forgotten. It is still such a strong depiction of teenage life. Nice to revisit this old friend.
