Diana Wynne Jones is one of those fantasy authors people are always recommending but who I'd never really got into, despite being a self-professed fantasy fan. (Though, whether Howl's Moving Castle qualifies as fantasy or children's lit is somewhat unclear to me.) I have a strong memory of watching Miyazaki's film adaptation of Howl's Moving Castle in a friend's dorm room my freshman year of college. It was my first time watching a studio Ghibli film, and the gorgeous drawing style and creativity left a deep impression on me.

Somewhere between 3 and 4. It was a cute, good story. My favorite part was when they went to Wales and the references to this world that made some of Howl's references little in jokes.
