I almost can't even.... This book is so practically perfect in every way (thank you Mary Poppins) that I can't think of a simile good enough (though Rainbow Rowell certainly can; this story is filled with such swooningly good imagery....) It made me giddy, it made me cry. It's a damn good read.

I was surprised by how much I liked this book. Maybe I'm just hormonal or something, but this was a really sweet story. There were some edgy bits poking through, but it did warm my heart a little and reminded me about how nice it is when you like someone and they like you back. I loved the side characters, particularly Beebi and DeNice and Mr. Stessman. I could've used more of them. It's always so hard to review a YA book as an adult, especially one about first love and difficult families. Eleanor and Park are two misfits (well, she's definitely a misfit, he seems fairly well-adjusted) who get stuck sitting next to each other on the school bus. Eventually, they begin to bond over comic books and next thing you know they are in a full blown teenage romance. Thoroughly enjoyed. So many YA novels are angsty and melodramatic and I end up rolling my eyes or worse, wanting to throw them against the wall. This was different, and I would love to read more of Rowell's work.

This is a raw, tragic love story. It was a page turner and kept me engaged. That being said, the obscenities and content didn't appeal to me at all.
