What Members Thought

I will write more about this later after I have had more time to let it sink in, but my initial reaction is that Eleanor & Park is one of the best love stories that I've read in a long time...maybe ever. Really, really good. Everyone should read it. I think it has special appeal for readers of YA who aren't exactly Y(oung) because it is set in 1986 and there are lots of music and pop culture references that the older readers will enjoy. But there is also plenty to love for people who didn't get

Lovely, straightforward and sweet. Since I only had basic crushes in high school and didn't start dating until college, it was difficult at first for me to fathom how it could be possible for these two to be so completely in love after knowing each other so briefly and at such a young age. But I can relate to being head over heels in love and devoted to another, and on that level the relationship between Eleanor and Park works. Like Rowell's other books, the setting and characters are perfectly

I find it really hard to describe just how amazing this story is. It brings back so many memories of first loves and meeting people when you are younger that just blow your mind. It's such a sweet and truthful story of a high school romance, of two people that meet at just the right time and of the complicated nature of teenage life and love. I really just can't describe how much I loved this story and how I couldn't put it down.

Touching, funny, and brings back the emotions of being a teenager with little control in your family, trying to find your place in the world, and falling in love for the first time. The fact that it is set in the 80's makes this YA novel perfect for us 40-somethings. Read it!
Here is a summary in the author's words:
"Eleanor & Park is set in 1986. It’s about two 16-year-olds who fall in love on a school bus. The story is told from both of their points of view. Eleanor, a chubby redhead, is the ne ...more

OH man. I cried at the end. Not appropriate for MSBA, but I would say it is a must-read.

Meet Eleanor, who is permanently lodged in my heart, and Park, who, dude. Just send me back to 1986; I was a sophomore in high school then, too. I'd totally have fought Eleanor for him. Or, I'd have watched them and been jealous. Because Eleanor & Park together - oh, so right. Even when they're breaking my heart because the world is a sucky place sometimes, they're oh, so right. Heartbreakingly right.

This book broke my heart, and if you know anything about me at all you know that's difficult to do. Especially when it's a teenage love story.

I really wanted this to be 5 stars but it was just 4 stars for me. Still a wonderful story of acceptance and love.

So good- this one was a bit more serious and sadder than Rowell's others, but I really like it.
