Pretty good read. At first I thought, "Well, obviously he makes it. Look how long this book is!" But it's not just following him, it also follows the team that had to leave him behind and the people back on Earth who are dealing with his situation. So, it could kind of go anywhere.
I didn't follow the science, and if you are also not very science-y, don't worry about it. There are some parts where it's tedious but it's mostly reigned in and you can get by skimming the longer bits. ...more

The cover on the version I read was awful. Why would a market choose a cover made more for a deodorant ad than this beautiful cover? Mind-boggling! Anyway, got about halfway through this one. Great plot and pacing but the characters and sexist snide asides (not to mention the awful dialogue) eventually lost me. Bet it makes a great movie though!

Survival / adventure books aren't really my thing, or, at least, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit but didn't really get much more out of the book. But I guess I should give the book some credit for generating an entertaining movie. I listened to the audiobook of this, which was overall well narrated, although there were some awkwardly bad foreign accents.
