I found this book to be a mixture of great, ok, and stuff I know nothing about. The latter refers mostly to movies and tv episodes I'm assuming where a hot discussion topic when she wrote those specific essays. The topics jump around a bit and some of them, I just read for the commentary without knowing the specifics she was referencing. Which is ok, it just meant I would be lost for an essay or two.

Otherwise, though, her writing is powerful and insightful.

Conceptually “Bad Feminist” is so good. I also feel like a bad feminist. I enjoy the occasional romance novel that seem to be rife with problematic scenes, I am a fan of 80’s hair bands whose treatment of women like Bobbie Brown and Tawny Kitaen could be at best described as objectification, I really love luxury designer hand bags, etc. Parts of this essay collection were deeply personal and even the essays where I disagreed with her opinion were well-written and respectful.
