My friend recommended me this book, and he said "it is the Roman Empire, in space", which made me imagine it would be a really fun read. I am a bit disappointed, as it reads slightly as a history book but it's not interesting like history because when reading history one can be like "wow that really happened". There is no character development as it jumps through decades at a time in order to cover centuries, thus i didn't stick with characters long enough to care about them.

A scientist attempts to thwart the probability of a 30,000 year dark age, by squeezing the development of human history into a millenia. He does this by establishing a world on the edge of the galaxy which contains the scientific knowledge and advancement of the failing Galactic empire. The book is written as a series of episodes over the course of 150 years.

That being said, I didn't find myself too attached to any of the characters. We're given very little time with them. There's enough moment

I wanted to enjoy this book more than I did. The only other Asimov I have read up to this point has been The End of Eternity (1955) and The Gods Themselves (1972). I thought maybe because Foundation was early (1951), I would like it less than his newer books, but I loved End of Eternity and disliked The Gods Themselves, so who knows?
