I get it- some of you out there in readerdom were seriously annoyed by this book and on some level I agree. However, it's been a long time since I found a book this hard to put down. Admittedly, I am a sucker for a good murder mystery and the psychological components were fascinating to me as well- so there's that. So glad I didn't read the reviews on this one before I read the book - they might have turned me off it it entirely, which would have been a real shame.

This is ostensibly a police procedural about the murder of a child in Ireland, but there are many layers to this story. It alternates between the present day case and the disappearance of two children when one of the invesitgators was a child. The characters are all richly done and there are many layers of psychological suspense.
