This book was exquisite at times, profound yet profoundly boring at others, and still others what I'll eloquently call "crazypants." Sometimes this was all on the same page. It is more riveting than not, though laughably outdated at times. Oscar Wilde is just the best though.

The Picture of Dorian Gray is the best classic novel I've read this year (so far). It's one of those rare books that keeps getting better as you read through it because it involves an appealing mixture of mystery, horror, and philosophy. The messages within can be applied to the here and now.
I finished reading it, and just sat there thinking about life and what's important to society versus what's essential. Any book that stirs those sort of analytical thoughts is worthy of greatness. It's also ...more

You know what? My reflection says this should be 5 stars.
This is a very good book. At the very least it's well-written, with lovely sentences and humor, especially early on. The plot and characterization were also fantastic. There was that long chapter consisting of mostly a list of many famous jewels throughout history and other matters that I felt could have been more effective, and it's not my FAVORITE favorite, but it was still very good. ...more
