I've wanted to read this book for quite a while, having long been familiar with the general concept involved. The bones of a great story are here, and it's fascinating to see what Dorian is willing to sacrifice for his vanity as well as the deep depths that he sinks to. You know what? My reflection says this should be 5 stars.
This is a very good book. At the very least it's well-written, with lovely sentences and humor, especially early on. The plot and characterization were also fantastic. There was that long chapter consisting of mostly a list of many famous jewels throughout history and other matters that I felt could have been more effective, and it's not my FAVORITE favorite, but it was still very good. ...more
