What? What! What? My experience with Frankenstein has, of course, been the many movie versions that are out there. Now, I realize that books and movies differ, but I didn't realize to what extent. SPOILER ALERT: There is no Igor! There is no scary mass of peasants storming the castle while Frankenstein is up on the roof waiting for a lightning storm.

I have always equated horror with violence and bloodshed simply for the sake of it. Maybe that is not a completely fair characterization of horror, I don't know. In any case, with the goal of completing the Literary Exploration Challenge I was ready and willing to give horror a try. Being a classic and as I understand it, one of the first of its kind, I chose Frankenstein as my introduction to the genre. Let it be known that the monster's name is not Frankenstein, but rather it is the name of the scientist and man who created the monster.
That's just something I had to get out of the way and admittedly I was part of the population who initially thought the reverse. And while this novel is a classic of the sci-fi/horror genre, I can finally say that I've read it.
