The Book Thief is a relatively long book, and I really started to feel the length about halfway through. For me, the plot moved pretty slowly, but I think the slower pace was necessary to build the characters and significant details that ultimately give this book the impact that it has. All of the characters are superbly developed through actions rather than description, which I really appreciated. The story of Liesel Meminger as told by the narrarator, Death, was for me, tragedy upon tragedy. The good moments she had weren't even actually "good", but considering this was a story told during Hitler's years, they were as good as she would know for that time
It reminds the reader just how much a human can bear,live through, and what our consciences can do to us. A great story of the human spirit and/or lack of it
