I thought that this book was a great precursor and good inspiration for the ted talks that we did. Winston's story as he goes about his tedious and monotonous life, he has revelation as he encounters surprises and his life becomes turned upside down, as his thoughts and desire overcome his love for Big Brother. The book's plot is very eye opening and actually scary. At times the book kept me on the edge of my seat but I was bored most of the time because there is a lot of repetition. ...more

Maybe the most important book of the 20th Century. Not the most excited of books to read, but the ideas and very important.

This book talks about a dystopia world where no one has freedom, even no freedom to think. Reading this book makes me think about the society I currently live in, and how they are similar and different. 1984 was a book with constant nervousness and there were a lot of turning over situation throughout the book. It shows how not only the society in the past but the society of now represents how it is illustrated in the book, 1984. The way the protagonist passed through all the brainwashed people and has his own thoughts was impressive.

This book could be considered as an overall view of society today. It deals a lot with power and fear in which are used to either control or gain control.
