As the runt of the litter, Xena was extremely small as a puppy, needing to be fed three times a day. My elementary principal allowed me to keep her in my office at school bringing her out to be with the children during story time. Even today the sight of the school causes her to bark and twirl with happiness.

In Tuesday Tucks Me In, Tuesday the service dog tells about his day with former Captain Luis Carlos Montalvan, a disabled veteran with PTSD and traumatic brain injury. Tuesday goes everywhere with Luis (a photo shows him peeking out from under a bathroom stall door), visits other disabled veterans, and helps prevent Luis’s panic attacks. This photo book for children is a great introduction to service animals beyond the seeing-eye dogs that are most commonly known.

This is a great way to introduce service dogs to children. It is a true story, told through photographs and minimal text about service dog Tuesday (golden retriever) and his soldier, Luis Montalvan. The text is told from the point of view of Tuesday, and the photographs will tug at everyone's heartstrings. This short book makes me want to read the memoir it is based on, "Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him."

This book inspired conversations with my kids about service animals, physical & mental health, and war. Very nicely done.
Skye: "Be warned: This book is very emotional. (My mom cried!)"
Felix: "I really like that it's told from the point-of-view of the dog. He's cute and funny!" ...more

A service dog and his soldier...told from the dog's point of view. Helps children to understand the role of a service dog and provides a glimpse into the life of an army veteran who served several tours in Iraq. Photographs of Tuesday and Luis help tell the story and show their love and strong bond.
