I adore this new book illustrated by the Fan Brothers! Everything I look for in a picturebook is wrapped up in this one--meaningful themes and and an open-ended narrative that will invite questioning and wondering from both child and adult readers. Fantastic!

A fox with a lot of questions joins the crew of an antlered ship in search of adventure and sweet grass. Beautifully detailed illustrations highlight a story of friendship, discovery and wonder. The texture and line work stand out and the soft colors of the sky and sea and the warm wood of the ship foster feelings of introspection and adventure simultaneously.

There was a lot of hype around this book so I had high expectations. I thought it was okay, good but not great. I liked the conclusion in the end. The illustrations were good. But...not an incredible book.

This was an interesting read. I am not sure students will understand the big idea behind the book. The artwork is creative and in-depth. I am not sure if this will be a winner as a read aloud.

Ultimately a tale of friendship and adventure.

11/24/2017 ** Pair this with Jon Muth's Three Questions. Ignore the slight incongruity of the carnivores and herbivores getting along. Friendship is where we are right now; the journey matters more than the destination.

Caldecott ?? Hmmm. Possibly.

The most beautiful illustrations by the Fan Brothers!

Loved this mostly because of illustrations and story. I was enthraled with the fox and the friendship search. Couldn’t help but think if Noah, but the message is not so heavy handed. Maybe this could pair with Little Fox in the Forest.
